Matte shungite is about as dark as a stone gets, and it makes an excellent backdrop. Against it, lavender amethyst — the pale end of the amethyst range, closer to wisteria than to grape, and much harder to source than the deep purple everyone knows. One polished ten-millimeter round holds the center, with smaller faceted rondelles of the same stone flanking it, so the color steps up and then back down again.

Black and lavender is a combination that looks deliberate rather than accidental, which is rarer in jewelry than it should be. Wear it with gray, cream, denim, or anything you already own in that same soft purple.
