Geckos, the old stories say, are luck that decided to stay. This one arrives in blazing hand-painted color, chiseled from a recycled steel oil drum by Haitian artisans using the technique Georges Liautaud invented in the late 1950s — chalk the design on flattened steel, then cut it free by hand with a mallet and chisel. Roughly six by nine inches of pure, joyful energy for a wall, a fence post, or the sunny side of the potting shed. Handmade, so dimensions and finish vary slightly from piece to piece; yours will be the only one exactly like it.
