Rice Water Conditioner Bar, Chamomile Rose

In the terraced rice villages of Longsheng, women have rinsed their hair in fermented rice water for generations, and the results are famous enough that people travel to see them. That rice water is the base of this bar, along with cocoa butter and hydrolyzed rice protein. What it does is simple: it puts back what hot water and hard days take out, so dry hair stops feeling like straw somewhere around the third wash. The scent is chamomile with a rose-like note from geranium flower extract, soft rather than sweet.

Work the bar down the lengths, not the roots. Leave it a minute while you do something else, then rinse. One bar runs to about ninety washes, which is roughly three bottles of conditioner that never entered the house, and it lives on a dish instead of in a shower caddy full of plastic. Best for dry to normal hair, and safe on color.
