Black Castor Hair Oil

Black castor oil is the darker, denser cousin of the pale kind — roasted first, which gives it the color and the deep, faintly toasted smell that people either love immediately or come around to by the third use. It is heavier than an argan or a jojoba and it does not pretend otherwise. This is not a serum. It is an oil, and it wants to be worked in slowly, by hand, with time.

Part the hair and run the pump along the scalp, then use what is left on your palms down the length and through the ends. Twenty minutes is fine; overnight under a scarf is better. Wash it out the next morning and go. The amber bottle keeps it out of the light, the clear one lets you watch the level drop, and either one comes back to the shop for an 8 oz refill instead of into the bin.
