Loofah + Cellulose Kitchen & Cleaning Sponge

For the Earth Goddess — who has decided the sponge under her sink should not be made of plastic.

Two natural materials laminated together, each doing what it does best. The cellulose side — wood pulp, essentially — drinks up water and wipes down a counter in one pass. The loofah side, which is the dried fruit of a gourd vine, scours a pan without shedding the faint blue crumbs an ordinary scrubber leaves in the drain. Between them they handle nearly everything a kitchen asks of a sponge.

Rinse it and stand it on edge to dry and it holds its shape for months. It can ride the top rack of the dishwasher when it needs a reset, and go in the compost when it is finally done. Keep one at the kitchen sink and one for the bathroom.
