Konjac Facial Sponge

For the Water Goddess — who thinks a face ought to be washed, not sanded.

Konjac is a Japanese root vegetable, and someone long ago worked out that if you whip its fibre into a sponge and let it dry, you get something hard as a puck in the cupboard and soft as a cloud the moment it meets water. That is the whole trick. Wet, it is gentle enough for the thin skin under the eyes, and it still carries off the day’s makeup and whatever has settled into your pores since morning.

Soak it in warm water for a few minutes until it swells and softens. Work up a small lather with your cleanser, then move it over the skin in slow circles. Rinse it out completely, press it between your palms — do not wring it — and hang it to dry. Arrives unpackaged, as it should.
