A hot toddy is the oldest argument for winter there is. Wildflower honey, lemon juice, ginger and a quiet blend of spices, already reduced down to a syrup so that nobody has to stand at the stove muddling anything. The bottle does the work; you supply the ceremony.

Pour a measure into hot water or a strong black tea and stop there, or add whiskey, brandy or rum and let the evening take its natural course. Sixteen ounces makes roughly ten toddies, which is either a long winter for one or a very short one for six.
