Earth and Sky Bamboo Kimono with Tree Print

For the Water Goddess — the one who counts an afternoon spent watching clouds move through branches as time well spent.

The tree at the center of this print was painted in the late 1800s by the British artist Charles Aston, all soft texture and muted weather, the kind of landscape that asks you to slow your breathing. Moths painted two centuries earlier by the Dutch master Melchior d Hondecoeter have been set into the trim, so the whole design hovers somewhere between a summer afternoon and the dusk that follows it. The palette stays quiet — greens gone gray, sky going pale — which is why it wears so easily.

This is the kimono for the long slow parts of the day. Over a linen tank and wide trousers on a warm evening, over a swimsuit walking back from the water, over pajamas with coffee when nobody is expected. The bamboo viscose keeps it cool against the skin and light enough to fold into any bag.
