For the Water Goddess — the one who answers a question with a hand gesture and everybody understands.

The shaka is not a peace sign and it is not a wave. It means something closer to it's all right, take your time, no worries — which is a great deal of meaning for a thumb and a pinky. The story goes back to a sugar mill worker on Oahu's North Shore who lost three fingers and kept waving anyway; the children copied him, and a hundred years later the whole state is still doing it. These socks put that hand in cobalt blue across a knit that has no business being as soft as it is.

Wear them under jeans, with running shoes, on the flight home. Mid-calf, cushioned, and packaged with no plastic hooks or single-use plastic anywhere.

Cotton blend · M/L fits women's 9–13, men's 8–12 · Plastic-free packaging · Last one!
