Extra large, blended to glide rather than drag, and made with beeswax instead of paraffin. Beeswax is renewable, it is not a petroleum product, and it lays down a richness of color the drugstore box of forty-eight has never once managed. The size matters too: fat enough for a small fist that has not yet worked out the pencil grip, and sturdy enough to survive being sat on.

For the art drawer, the restaurant bag, the grandparents' house. They arrive on a display card, which makes them one of the easier things to hand over without wrapping.
