Fair Trade Wool Dryer Balls

For the Earth Goddess — who stopped buying boxes of dryer sheets some years ago and has not once missed them.

These are hand felted in Nepal from 100% New Zealand wool, by makers certified through the World Fair Trade Organization, which means the wage and the working conditions behind them have been audited by somebody other than the company selling them. A wool ball works the old way, by physics rather than chemistry: it tumbles between the layers, keeps them separated so the hot air moves through, and comes out the other side having softened the fabric, knocked down the static and the wrinkles, and cut the drying time by as much as a quarter. No azo dyes, no fillers, no synthetics, nothing that coats the fibers of your towels and slowly stops them absorbing water.

Toss a few in with every load and forget about them — they will outlast a thousand cycles. If you miss the scent of a dryer sheet, put a single drop of essential oil on a ball before it goes in; lavender at night, sweet orange for linens.
