Owls have spent millennia as the keepers of hidden knowledge, and this one wears the job lightly: thirteen inches of hand-painted rose and blush, cut from a recycled steel oil drum in Haiti. The artisans of Le Primitif still work the way Georges Liautaud did when he founded the craft in the late 1950s — a design chalked onto flattened steel, then cut out entirely by hand with mallet and chisel. Every piece is one of a kind, with dimensions and finish that vary slightly; hers is a face no factory could repeat.
