Artist pants are named honestly. The waist is drawstring in front and elastic across the back, so nothing digs when you sit down on the floor to work. The hem is cropped and cut with a lantern curve that draws in at the ankle, which is the detail that keeps a comfortable trouser from reading as a pajama. The cloth is a custom-woven linen and bamboo blend, natural and forgiving, and it gets better with every wash.

The print comes from the 1700s series of hand-colored flower etchings, layered until the garden runs wild, with a bumblebee trim borrowed from a Victorian seed catalogue. Wear them with a plain tank and sandals, or with a chunky sweater and boots once it turns. Pockets, of course.
