Sea turtles cross entire oceans on memory alone, which makes this one a fine guardian for anyone finding her own way. Thirteen inches of hand-painted shell and fin, chiseled from a recycled steel oil drum by Haitian artisans in the tradition Georges Liautaud started in the late 1950s: the design chalked onto flattened steel, then cut free by hand with mallet and chisel. Because every piece is handmade, dimensions and finish vary slightly — like currents, no two runs alike.

Hang her in the bath, on the patio, or wherever your rooms need the unhurried certainty of the tides. She travels at her own pace and always arrives. One in the shop.
