For the Fire Goddess — a guardian for the room where all the real magic happens.

Klara arrived with rosy cheeks, a crooked smile, and the watchful eyes of someone who has seen a thousand sauces saved at the last possible moment. Wisps of grey hair escape her black pointed hat — trimmed with feathers and small red accents, as any self-respecting hat should be — and she clutches her broom like a scepter. The old Northern European custom holds that a kitchen witch keeps roasts from burning and pots from boiling over: Nothing spills, nothing spoils, overcooks or overboils.

Hang her near the stove or perch her on an open shelf where she can supervise. She makes a knowing housewarming gift for the friend who brews her own remedies, and a quiet daily reminder that your kitchen is sacred space — stir your intentions in with the soup.
